What is Art Therapy?
Art Therapy is a mental health profession, in which clients use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, and increase self-esteem. Art Therapy should be conducted by a trained Art Therapist.

- Art Therapist are trained to pair art directives with the individual needs of the clients to work towards treatment goals.
- Art Therapists need to complete a graduate school program to obtain their master’s degree. They also need to have Studio Arts classes at a bachelor’s Level, as well as Psychology classes at a bachelor’s level.
- ATR-BC stands for Registered Board-Certified Art Therapist. To become an ATR-BC you must complete a certain number of supervised hours from an ATR-BC, as well as pass the ATCBE (Art Therapy Credential Board Exam).
